Youth Ambassadors
Young people leading the way at UTurn
The UTurn Youth Ambassadors Programme is a voluntary initiative that puts young people at the heart of our charity. Ambassadors help shape what we do, share ideas from their peers and represent UTurn in the community.
They’re not just “helpers” – they’re decision-makers, leaders and role models for other young people.
What is a Youth Ambassador?
Youth Ambassadors are young people who:
Care about their community and want to make a difference
Are involved in UTurn projects or the hub
Want to build confidence, skills and leadership experience
They act as a bridge between UTurn staff and the young people who use our services, making sure youth voices are heard in everything from project design to fundraising priorities
What do Ambassadors do?
As a Youth Ambassador, a young person might:
Welcome new young people to the hub so they feel comfortable
Help shape and sometimes co-deliver mentoring and group sessions
Plan and support events, trips and campaigns
Take part in community projects such as litter picks or local initiatives
Assist with fundraising ideas and decisions about how money is spent
We provide training, guidance and ongoing support so Ambassadors can grow in their role.
Skills and benefits
Through the programme, Youth Ambassadors:
Build confidence and communication skills
Gain leadership and teamwork experience
Learn about planning, responsibility and problem-solving
Strengthen their CVs, college and job applications
Make a visible, positive difference in their community
We’ve already seen Ambassadors take the lead in welcoming others, running initiatives and raising funds for UTurn
How to become a Youth Ambassador
Young people are usually:
-
Recommended by staff or other young people, or
-
They can express interest themselves at the hub
We look for reliability, kindness and willingness to learn – not “perfect” behaviour or top grades.
