UTURN

SUPPORT THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

What We Do

UTurn provides early help, mentoring, positive activities and practical opportunities for young people and families.

Our approach starts with the individual young person — listening, building trust and helping them develop confidence, positive relationships and realistic next steps.

DIFFERENT SUPPORT FOR DIFFERENT NEEDS

How We Support Young People

Support can look different for every young person. Some may need individual support, while others benefit from activities, group opportunities or simply having somewhere positive to belong.

Mentoring & Early Help

Trusted individual support that can help young people work through challenges, build confidence and identify positive next steps.

Activities & Experiences

Positive activities, sport, creativity, games, life skills, trips and opportunities to connect with others.

Targeted Programmes

Projects and programmes responding to particular needs, funding opportunities and priorities within our community.

Outreach & Community Support

Taking youth work beyond the Hub and building positive relationships with young people in their own communities.

WHO WE’RE HERE FOR

Supporting Young People to Move Forward

UTurn primarily supports young people aged 9–18, and up to 25 for young people with low-level additional needs.

Young people may come to UTurn for many different reasons. They might need help with confidence, emotional wellbeing, friendships, relationships, school, transitions, social connection or simply benefit from more positive opportunities.

We are an early-help youth charity rather than a crisis service or specialist high-level SEND provision. If UTurn isn’t the right level of support, we will be open about that and help identify a more appropriate next step where possible.

THERE’S MORE THAN ONE WAY IN

How Young People Can Reach UTurn

Parent or Carer

Parents and carers can contact UTurn or make a referral when they feel their young person may benefit from support.

School or Professional

Schools, professionals and partner organisations can refer young people or discuss targeted support with us.

Young Person

Young people can also contact UTurn themselves if they would like to ask for support.

RELATIONSHIPS COME FIRST

How We Work

We know that every young person is different. Our support isn’t one-size-fits-all and we don’t expect young people to fit neatly into a programme.

Listen First

Understand what is happening before deciding what might help.

Build Trust

Create consistent and respectful relationships with young people.

Build on Strengths

Recognise what a young person can do, not only what they may be struggling with.

Create Opportunity

Help young people access experiences and next steps that support positive progress.

YOUTH VOICE

Young People at the Heart of UTurn

Young people aren’t simply recipients of UTurn’s support. Their ideas, experiences and feedback help influence our activities, projects and future development.

Our Youth Ambassadors also take on leadership opportunities, represent young people’s views and help shape UTurn.

WORKING TOGETHER

Schools, Professionals & Partners

UTurn works alongside schools, professionals and community partners to help young people access appropriate support and positive opportunities.

This may include referrals, mentoring, small-group support, transition work, targeted programmes, outreach or wider partnership activity.
