Outreach & Community Support
Our outreach and street-based sessions take UTurn to the places young people spend time, especially in high-risk areas. Working with partners like Essex Police, we offer support, advice and positive activities on the streets and in the community.
Who it’s for
Outreach & Community Support focuses on:
- Young people aged 9–18 who spend time in public places or identified hotspots
- Those who may not already engage with services or youth provision
- Communities where there are concerns about safety, anti-social behaviour or exploitation
What we offer
- Street-based youth work UTurn staff and partners engaging young people where they are – parks, streets, town centres and estates.
- On-the-spot support Listening, advice and signposting around safety, wellbeing, relationships and practical issues.
- Pop-up activities Informal games, conversations and activities that break the ice and build relationships.
- Links to the Hub and projects Encouraging and supporting young people to access the UTurn Hub, mentoring and other programmes.
- Community partnership working Collaboration with police, councils, local businesses and residents to respond to concerns and improve safety.
How it helps
Outreach & Community Support helps to:
- Reach young people who might not walk into a building for help
- Build trust through regular, consistent presence in the community
- Reduce tensions and anti-social behaviour
- Connect young people to safer spaces and opportunities
- Strengthen relationships between young people, services and the wider community
How to get involved
- Professionals and community members can contact UTurn to highlight areas of concern
- Young people met through outreach can be offered support directly or invited to the Hub
- Community partners can work with UTurn on joint initiatives and events
We’re proud to work with local and national funders, organisations and partners who share our vision for safer, stronger futures for young people. Their support helps us run our hub, projects and outreach work across Tendring.
