Ways You Can Volunteer

We have a range of volunteering opportunities to suit different interests, experience and availability.

Hub Sessions

Support activities, welcome people, help set up sessions and be a positive adult presence at The UTurn Hub.

Trips & Events

Help with community events, fundraising activities, trips, holiday clubs and special projects.

Mentoring Support

Support young people through mentoring-style activities, with full training, guidance and supervision.

Skills-Based Support

Use your skills to support admin, fundraising, communications, creative activities, maintenance or practical projects.

What We’re Looking For

 

You do not need specific qualifications for most volunteer roles. What matters most is your attitude, reliability and commitment to helping create a safe and supportive environment.

  • Patient, kind and non-judgemental
  • Able to listen and relate to young people
  • Positive, supportive and open to learning
  • Willing to follow UTurn’s safeguarding policies and procedures

Young Volunteers & Work Experience

UTurn also offers volunteering and work experience opportunities for young people aged 14–17, where appropriate and safely supported.

  • Gain skills and experience for college, apprenticeships or future jobs
  • Grow in confidence and independence
  • Support positive activities and community projects
  • Give something back to the local community

Before You Apply

 

Because UTurn works with children, young people and vulnerable people, volunteer roles are subject to safer recruitment checks.

  • All volunteers receive an induction and role guidance
  • Training and support will be provided where needed
  • Some roles may require two references
  • Some roles may require an enhanced DBS check
  • UTurn will discuss the right role and next steps with you after your application

Because UTurn works with children, young people and vulnerable people, some volunteer roles may require references, induction, training and an enhanced DBS check. UTurn will discuss this with you before you start.

Are you registered with the DBS Update Service?
Please include anything that would help us support you safely and appropriately.

Please provide two referees where possible. These could be from work, education, volunteering, a professional role or someone who knows you well but is not a close family member.
